Sometimes in our lives we come across something, or someone that absolutely changes who you are.
These events come in many forms.
It is often a birth, a death…a marriage, or a marriage gone bad.
Life changing events bring us closer to “who we are” by how we perceive these and our actions or reactions to them…
Recently, on September 17th to be exact ~ I experienced something that changed my life.
Some of my readers may or may not know of my past…to get to the point and to put it bluntly I was abused as a child. In some pretty sick and disgusting ways…
I really am lucky to be alive…even though there were many times that I would have preferred to have died.
Remembering the shit that I did remember and having to put it all into “perspective” and to make some kind of sense out of it all was pretty draining to say the least. The memories alone were paralyzing and it all affected my life and the lives of those around me…
Boy, would I hate to be them…being them, had to suck more than being me…{back then}
The past has helped my present…my present is pretty damn good!
I went to L.A., to attend and support a huge fund-raising event in Promoting Awareness and Victim Empowerment~ PAVE.
One of the speakers was David Peltzer author of; A Child Called It.
A great talk on survival, his sense of humor and poking a little fun at Tony Robbins made us giggle…
The life changing performance by Steve Connell moved me to tears…as I am sure it did many…
I recorded most of it…and have listened to it daily since the 17th of September.
If I ever had strength, I have that much more now, If I ever had courage, I have much more of it now, if I had shame…I have less of it now…
~Karin Hiebert
What moved me most was Steve speaking about being a survivor…
specifically…
“just because you survived Katrina or the abuse/rape itself, does not make you a survivor…you are only a survivor once you have rebuilt…when you are thriving…that is when you can call yourself a survivor…
It is about thriving, not just surviving…it is about it “NOT BEING YOUR SHAME…”
Please view this one minute video…pass it on…someone you know could use it!
From what I hear, there will be something great available to all of those who could not attend the event…
In the mean time do this; go to my facebook page…watch the short one minute video on my “wall” …share it…
If you can donate something to Pave…anything…tell em I sent you!
